Short answer: with the WhatsApp Business API you pay two things: Meta's charge for each template message you send, and the monthly or yearly plan of the platform you use (such as auton8n). Marketing messages cost the most, utility and authentication messages cost less, and most replies to customers are free or very cheap.

1. Meta's per-message charges

Since July 2025 Meta charges per delivered template message instead of per 24-hour conversation. The rate depends on the template category and the country code of the person receiving it.

Marketing: offers, announcements, re-engagement. The highest rate.
Utility: order, booking, payment and account updates. Free when sent inside an open 24-hour customer service window.
Authentication: one-time passwords (OTPs).
Service: free-form replies inside the 24-hour window after a customer messages you.
